How your sheet should look
One contact per row and a header row on top. The only required column is a name: either one Name column or First Name plus Last Name. Everything else is optional.
| Name | Mobile | Company | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Priya Sharma | +91 98765 43210 | priya@example.com | Northwind |
| Budi Santoso | +62 812 3456 7890 | budi@example.com | — |
- Several numbers per person? Use separate columns such as Mobile, Home Phone, and Work Phone. Each becomes its own number, labelled on the phone.
- Country codes (+91, +62, +44) make the numbers work for calls and WhatsApp from any country.
- Empty rows and rows without a name, number, or email are skipped.
The full list of column names the converter understands is on the CSV to VCF converter page; Excel files use the same rules.
Importing the VCF
- iPhone: send the .vcf to yourself (Mail, AirDrop, or Files), open it, and tap Add All Contacts.
- Android: Contacts → Fix & manage (or Settings) → Import from file → pick the .vcf.
- Google Contacts: contacts.google.com → Import → select the file. They sync to every phone signed in to that account.
- Outlook: File → Open & Export → Import/Export → Import a vCard file.
Need the opposite? The VCF to Excel converter turns a contacts export into a spreadsheet.
Frequently asked questions
How do I convert an Excel file to VCF?
Drop the .xlsx on the converter above. It reads the first sheet, uses row one as column names, shows a preview of the contacts it found, and gives you a single .vcf with all of them. The workbook is read in your browser and never uploaded.
Do I have to save the sheet as CSV first?
No. The converter reads .xlsx files directly. A CSV export works too if that is what you have.
My file is .xls, .numbers, or .ods. What do I do?
Those formats are not read directly. Open the file in Excel, Numbers, or LibreOffice and save or export it as .xlsx (or CSV), then drop that file here.
Which columns does it understand?
Names (Name, Full Name, First Name, Last Name), phones (Phone, Mobile, Mobile Number, Home Phone, Work Phone and similar), emails, company, job title, address parts, birthday, website, and notes. Exports from Google Contacts and Outlook are recognised as they are. Columns it does not know are skipped, not rejected.
Excel shows my numbers as 9.19877E+11. Will the VCF be wrong?
No. That is only how Excel displays a long number; the full value is stored in the file, and the converter writes it out in full. Zeros at the start of a number are different: Excel removes them when you type the number, so format the phone column as Text before entering numbers that start with 0.
How many contacts can I convert?
There is no limit. All rows go into one .vcf file, so you import once instead of contact by contact.
Will the contacts show up in WhatsApp?
Yes, once they are in your phone's address book. Import the .vcf into the phone's Contacts (or Google Contacts on Android), and WhatsApp lists every contact that uses it.
What if the sheet has several tabs?
Only the first sheet is read. Move the contacts to the first tab, or copy them into a new workbook.
