Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between vCard and VCF?
They are the same thing. vCard is the standard name for the contact format, and .vcf (Virtual Contact File) is the file extension used for vCard files. You may see both terms used interchangeably.
How do I export contacts as vCard from my phone?
On iPhone: Settings → Contacts → iCloud → export. Or share individual contacts via the Contacts app. On Android: Contacts app → Menu → Export → choose .vcf format. The process varies slightly by phone manufacturer and Android version.
What fields are extracted from the vCard?
Full name, first name, last name, primary phone, secondary phone, primary email, secondary email, organization, job title, street address, city, state, ZIP, country, birthday, website, and notes. Empty fields are excluded from the CSV output.
Can I open the CSV in Microsoft Excel?
Yes. Download the CSV, open Excel, and either double-click the file or use File → Import. If characters look garbled, choose UTF-8 encoding during import — this fixes special characters like accents and non-Latin scripts.
